What is the Challenge?

Doggone Safe is challenging our presenters to educate 50,000 children during the month of May to celebrate Dog Bite Prevention Week (3rd week of May) The children will learn how to read dog body language and act safely around dogs with the fun and interactive Be a Tree program. You can join in and help with this exciting initiative by booking some educational sessions at your school during this week. You may even get to participate in a Guinness Record attempt if we get approval for this!

Why Join the Challenge?

Dog bites are a serious problem for children. Statistics show that half of all children are bitten. Most of bites are by the family dog or other dog known to the child and the face is the most common bite site. It is very traumatic to be bitten and many children fear dogs as a result. Ask your students how many of them have been bitten and you will be shocked and will see first hand why something must be done about this. Experts agree that education is the best way to reduce dog bite risk. The Be a Tree program is highly regarded and is a fun and interactive way to empower children with the knowledge they need to keep themselves safe around dogs. Your students will learn to read dog body language and act safely around dogs while playing games and having fun. Click here to read some reviews of Doggone Safe and the Be a Tree program.

What is the Cost?

This is a volunteer initiative and there will be no charge to your school for the presentation if a presenter visits your school.

How to Book a Session

You can find a Be a Tree presenter in your area by searching our online directories and contacting someone that you find there. Be sure to ask for the presentations to occur during the month of May.

Booking with a presenter does not automatically register you with the Challenge. Please register even if you arrange your presentation directly with a presenter.

If you can't find someone in your area, or there is incomplete contact information in the directory, please register anyway and we will try to arrange for you to have a presentation.

Conducting Your own Sessions

Perhaps you would like to teach the Be a Tree lesson yourself? You can purchase the Be a Tree teacher kit and use it yourself and share it with other teachers. The kit is self-guiding and easy to use. You will need very little preparation time to learn to present the program. You can find the kit in the store (be sure to use the sale links!). The kit also comes with a slide show presentation that you can use with larger groups.
