Jen's Childhood
My interest and love of dogs began in my early childhood. I grew up in a home
with six dogs. I trained and showed them in both Confirmation and obedience.
I also enjoyed Junior and Senior showmanship. I spent most afternoons training
and playing with my dogs after school. In Jr high and High School, I began
being asked to train and show several dogs that did not belong to our family.
I enjoyed this very much! Many of my showing experiences were with the CKCSC of the Northeast (see also Cavalier Club).
University
My passion with dogs and working with them was clear from the beginning!
Along with this was a strong desire to teach and assist children with disabilities.
I found myself volunteering either with dogs or kids. This was when I was
happiest. It is with this in mind that I chose to get a duo Bachelor’s degree
in Special Education and Elementary Education at Kutztown University. Jen's concentration being theMPH Program
Working
I have spent many years working with children and adults with and without
disabilities in a variety of environments. I enjoy this aspect of my career very much.
Some of my greatest experiences have been with the following organizations in Pennsylvania:
- Prospectus Associates
- Ken Crest Centres
- Dreuding Centre (Project Rainbow)
Staying-at-Home
As a stay at home Mom, my desire to educate and help others succeed
continued and I became a member of Nursing Mother’s Advisory Council NMAC.
I have counseled nursing Moms for over six years and continue to enjoy
sharing in this amazing time in peoples lives! What an honor. I still
counsel Moms from time to time through the Safe Child Welcome Baby Program.
I enjoy each and every opportunity to reach out to new Moms as a
support in their early days of Motherhood. There is no greater honor
then to be included in that precious time.
Creating Family Paws
It is with all of this in mind that Family Paws came to be. Family Paws
allows me to enjoy the best of both worlds! I believe the relationship between
dogs and their family is precious and I am dedicated to the success of this
relationship. I know that with my teaching background and my personal experiences
with animals, I can offer opportunities to families that will help enhance
their relationship with their dog.
Continuing Education
As a Certified dog behavior consultant, I am always looking for opportunities
to continue my education. I maintain professional memberships with APTD
as wellI as a certified & founding member of IADBCInc. I am enrolled in a Diploma program of Canine Behavior Theory at Cynology College. I have been an advisor at Doggie Door Forums for three years in the areeas of Dogs & Kids and Cat
and Dog.
Keeping up to date in the world of canine behavior is a priority for me.
Our Canine Kids
Once our boys were both walking/running we decided to adopt a dog. We wanted
to work with a rescue and adopted Moose through German Shepherd Rescue & Adoptions.
I immediately became a volunteer and never imagined how much I would learn and grow by doing so. What a great experience!
We ended up adopting a second German Shepherd rescue named Carin.
She is an amazing girl. We have fostered MANY gsds and goldens and now
are enjoying kittens and cats! So as you can see I continue to love
kids and all animals.
